We managed to see a lot and mainly stay dry.
We first did a tour of the grounds and spent some time in the Indian Village. Did you know you can cook bannock (bread) on a stick over a flame?
Then we sat at the Saddledome stage to wait for the Calgary Stampede show band to start. We caught the end of a kids’ show and the kids on stage were so cute.
The show band lived up to its name and put on a great show, including one song performed by saxes only – about 14 of them.
We then spent a half hour or so in the Saddledome watching some Heavy Horse hitches walk to the beat of the CPO quintet. Very interesting. I learned a lot of heavy horse lingo. Like one group was in the “unicorn” hitch, that is one in front and two behind, for a total of three horses.
Then we were off to the Coca Cola stage to see Terry Stokes the hypnotist. Oh man, he puts on an entertaining and very professional show. Like he had this 17 year old who was told he had to fall asleep every time he thought about sex. OK, this kid was falling asleep every 30 seconds.
Then two of us were off to see the animals and the agricultural area and one went to the Western Oasis. We met after an hour to line up to see the Acrobatic Ice Rock and Roll show. What a great show, live band, great skating and trapeze and other acrobatic performances.
What a great day! Laura L
