Sun, Jun 20 2010 - Pulp Fiction Mysteries - Ellis Peters (View Original Event Details)

Event Coordinator(s): Angela H
Participants:Angela H, Tina

Write Up:
Thanks Tina, for allowing me to introduce you to one of my favorite authors! I started reading the Brother Cadfael mysteries in 1986 when I found the "P" shelf on the old Georgina Thompson library. I have several authors I found on that shelf that I may introduce at a later time since most of them weren't mysteries.

Cadfael was a former Templar knight that retired to the monastic life after his earlier years in the middle east. In later books, that life does revisit him in unexpected ways.

We decided the writing style was a lot "softer" than what we see in fiction written now. Her style is descriptive and she is considered an historian so you get the feel she knows what she's talking about and that you "see" it.

As an add-on, I'd borrowed the DVD for the first episode of the Brother Cafael series "A Morbid Taste for Bones". Derek Jacobi does a wonderful job as Cadfael. (hmmm an idea for another event .... a Brother Cadfael movie mystery day...)

The next author is Michael Jecks and his Last Templar series. The character is a knight at the end of the era and we'll be comparing the "memories" Cadfael has with those of the character in that series.

Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you.
